RANKING SYSTEM
The Swimmers Records/Ranking System manages the maintaining and
reporting of swimmer's performance data. Comprehensive facilities are
provided for the printing of ranking lists and individual performance
histories.
| |
The system recognises each of the standard racing distances used in
ASA events plus the non- standard events of one or two lengths on each
stroke and the 4 x one length individual medley - where the total
distance covered does not correspond to a standard event.
For the standard events, times in the ranking files are converted to either
a pool length of 25 metres or 50 metres using the rules of the ASA
Equivalent Performance Tables. For the non- standard lengths times can
be converted to a range of common pool lengths using rules developed
for the purpose by SPORTSYSTEMS.
| |
The system validates swimmer personal detail against a master file
defined for the club or end user organisation.
The rules for determination of swimmer grades are built into the system.
The Graded Swimming Tables have been in use in the UK since 1979
and are re-published every four years by the ASA and the BSCA. The
merit of grading swimmers is that it enables comparison irrespective of
Age or Sex or Event. The Grades are AAA, AA, A, B which correspond
approximately to National, District, County and good Club standards.
The use of Grading and the reports generated by the system is
particularly beneficial in motivating the less able swimmer.
| |
The RECORDS files part of the system enables a record to be kept
of ALL swims - holding the date of swim, the pool length, the event
and the time achieved.
The RANKING files part of the system holds the best time by each
swimmer in each event in each calendar month for a running period
of twelve months.
The system minimises the possibility of incorrect name spelling and
date of birth information being recorded by cross checking against a
valid list of personal information, which can be extracted from the
SPORTSYSTEMS Membership system.
The system checks all input times to determine that they are valid.
This is mainly a protection against typing errors, but it is assumed
that a time faster than 10 seconds or slower than 45 minutes is in
error. The system allows times between 60 and 100 seconds to be
input either as straight seconds or as minutes and seconds.
The system checks that date inputs are valid.
Data may be entered into the Records files either directly from
results already held on computer disk and created by the
SPORTSYSTEMS Meet Organisation System, or via the keyboard
from results sheets or competitors cards.
For Reporting and Grade computation purposes the system
recognises the current standard ASA age groups.
The system has the rules for establishing Swimmers Overall Grades
built into the Grades and Individual Performances reporting module.
Ranking Lists can be produced for any desired age range either on a
best-recorded time basis or on a full twelve-month history basis. The
twelve month report shows best time in each calendar month up to
the current month and is particularly beneficial for supporting team
selection.
Where appropriate the user may define any age range for reporting
purposes.
The information held in the Records Files may be reported by month
or range of months, either for an individual swimmer or for all
swimmers.
An individual report can be printed for each swimmer showing
performance over the previous year for each event and for each
month. This report can show performance in terms of:
Time |
GB points |
BAG points |
Grade for each event and overall Grade |
